Ju'Quay Collyear

indianapolis, IN

I grew up rather poor.  I have 12 brothers and sisters but I don’t know all of them. I have found 7 of my siblings over the years.

My mom worked two jobs and we were always tight on money, though she made sure we always had food. I did not know my father.  I’ve experienced a lot of things that most haven’t and shouldn’t, but my mom raised me the best she could—she couldn’t protect me from everything that has happened to me.  The unfortunate things have helped sculpt me into the person I am today.  I am determined and strong minded.  I’ve been known to be the kind of person that will stick up for others I care for, if I feel they’re being treated unjustly.

I want to attend Denison University for math, and study education as a minor. I’d like to teach math one day. This foundation has the power to make all my hopes and dreams a reality.

SOLEDAD

Ju ‘Quay is one of our newest young women.  She lives in Indianapolis, and in spite of some hardship from a very early age, has distinguished herself as a strong student and an even stronger individual.

Ju ‘Quay—like many of our young women—can credit herself for much of her success. Even as a young child, she learned to focus and started to love school in elementary school. Her biggest challenge is financial—she has been accepted to several colleges—but not with a full scholarship.

When I met Ju ‘Quay she was calculating just how close she is to being named valedictorian—her school administrators are confident that she will win the honor.

We’re excited to take her on to help underwrite her tuition, and also help her with mentors and great opportunities, as she heads into college.
